Healing

healing

Hello out there!  How is everyone after Christmas?  It went so fast I thought and here we are at the start of a new year filled with promise and possibility…

Do you make resolutions?  I’ve noticed a lot of people lately talking about this notion of choosing a single word to inform your year ahead, for example Janine at Shambolic Living, Liz at Life Dreaming and Debra at New Endings to name just a few. (Click on the names to visit any of these ladies in a new tab)

‘A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow. From my own personal experience, it can be a catalyst for enriching your life.’

From ‘Big Picture Classes’, One Little Word for 2013

This is an idea I love because I believe so much in the power of words.  I was surprised at how easy my word for 2013 came to me because it was pretty much instant.  My word for 2013 is ‘healing‘. This is because I find I’m still in need of healing from some health/medical related traumas of the past few years.

I came across this quote recently…

soul

If this is true I could be in trouble!  I would say I’m quite a soulful person but not very good at silencing my mind (ok truthfully useless!) and isn’t the obvious response to this quote to ask, how?  How do we silence our minds?

You know at first you are so happy just to get away from the scene of the crime, the immediate danger and the worst of the pain and that relief is so great it sustains you for a long time. Eventually however time doesn’t heal like you hoped it would and your escape is mostly geographical.

So here is a question dear readers. Has anyone of you found healing when you needed it and if so how?  Did you learn to ‘silence your mind’, was time the answer or was it something else?

I’m really committed to my word of healing for 2013, it’s already become like a mantra in my head and has a soothing effect plus I’ve even made some early progress through the support of some great women in the Irish Parenting Bloggers Group I’m a member of.

In advance of this post I put these same questions to the women in the members forum and received a brilliant mix of practical advice, resources and tlc like only women can give!  If you’re a parent or parent to be I couldn’t recommend liking the group on facebook enough because between them what these women don’t know and aren’t talking about isn’t worth knowing or talking about!

It may be against the rules but I’ve chosen a second word too, borrowed it from Lewis Carroll’s, Alice in Wonderland…

muchness

‘Muchier!’ Now there’s a word you can hang your hat on : )

What word would you choose for 2013?

Here’s to a Happy New Year for us all full of great things like healing, muchness and much, much more : )

I think “healing” is a really important word, and I hope you find it works well for you. Although I really love “muchier” that quote is wonderful. I sometimes feel just like that, I think I’m going to try to recapture my muchness this year too.

Thanks so much for the mention.

    Thanks for the mention Jane.

    Healing is a great word.

My word is LIGHTER and I’ve spent time over the last few days exploring what that could mean in 2013.

I created some riffs and the key areas for my focus and attention. I then designed a wee poster to delight and remind me – it’s on my FB page https://www.facebook.com/lifedreaming

And – there are no rules.

If 2 words feels right for you – then it’s right for you.

My riffs will help me make big changes to a few old and entrenched habits/patterns of mine that need to just go away now!

2013 feels like a more energetic year after what felt like a very heavy 2012 for me and a lot of people.

A good friend chose the word AQUA which is really lovely as it has a sense of life giving and fluidity.

Still musing on what colour I’d like.

Sending you huge big wishes for a very healing 2013 Jane.

As to silencing the mind – I’m crap at ‘normal’ meditation so I just create spaces and time to do things that need focus in other ways – cooking, swimming, walking and going to galleries for a beauty fix.

I also tell my mind to shut the feck up and give my heart, body and intuition a chance to be heard.

And then there are times when I am delighted and deeply thankful for my curious mind as it has created some truly astonishing things in my life.

Your’re welcome Liz and thanks to you too. Lighter is a word I could get behind, great choice! I like your idea of creating spaces as a means of or substitute for meditation. I find this hard with the children but it’s definitely something that works well for me when I can manage it!

I love the word you chose, as it’s something that’s very important to do to achieve happiness. My way of healing is by ”letting go” and ”letting it be” I’ve learned there are some things I just can’t change and some things that I will just have to be patient for and wait for that day to come to try and change something. It’s prob not the best way of healing I’m not sure x

What a lovely post. I’m right there with you with ‘healing’ and I’ve also chosen a second, ‘self’. I find there’s so much of me given over to family life that I am normally drained with no time or energy left for myself. Let’s see how we get on in 2013!

    • The Great Gatsby – Language, Style, Emotion… May 18, 2013
Sometimes when I go to see a movie I wonder what’s wrong with people because if I listened to reviews what would I be watching? Would it be, as seems the case with awards ceremonies that the movies deemed to deal with the ‘big’ subjects would win out? Industry ‘cool’ movies deal with politics, crime, […]

As umbrellas magically transform into impossibly long stemmed roses I feel a growing excitement. For the second year I will know what summer is. The lovely month of May. Yesterday was May Day or to to give its pagan name Bealtaine the beginning of summer with ancient traditions in Ireland of flower wreaths and bonfires to protect cattle, crops and people and to encourage growth. I have memories of the doorsteps in town bedecked with flowers on this day. […]

Yesterday the sun shone we spent a few hours in a garden centre and now all I can think about is summer. Isn’t it funny how even in a climate like ours memories of summer days and hopes for long hot summers never fade. We are always hoping. When I need summer I sometimes cook […]
